The size of the biggest piece in this Russian dolls set is approx.
13 cm (approx. 5.2 inches). This set was made by talented artists
working in the very heart of the Matryoshka region, Sergiev Posad,
in Russia.
The set is of a “paunchy” (puzataya) or they are also called “light
bulb” shape and are beautifully decorated by highly skilled artists
using a number of techniques. Very pretty big pink flowers and other
patterns run across them which make them very feminine and tender.
The patterns continue to the back of the dolls as well.
As you can imagine from the quality of the dolls, there was a lot
of work and a number of high skilled techniques going into making
them. After preparing and polishing the moulds, made of Linden tree,
a process of pyrography was applied to the individual dolls. Pyrography
means "writing with fire" and is the traditional art of
using a heated tip or wire to burn designs onto natural materials
such as wood or leather. Varying the type of tip used, the temperature,
or the way the iron is applied to the material all create different
effects.
This set of ten Russian dolls can be a nice addition to your collection
or a charming present for someone special.
As all our Russian dolls are hand painted by artists there may be variations
and differences between those pictured on our website and the ones
you will receive. Every doll is unique as artists tend to add something
different to each and every doll set they paint. That’s why Russian
dolls are somehow a reflection of a mood of the artist painting
it in that particular moment. Russian dolls, as in life itself,
may have their own features, characters, colours and moods and can
be truly unique to you.
All our Russian dolls are hollow inside (apart from the last, smallest
doll of each set), they all open in half and fit inside each other.
