14 cm (6”), made from Linden tree, paints and varnish finish.
This is a very beautiful set of Russian dolls, a true piece of
art! It is of a non traditional pauncy matryoshka shape, which is
also called “light bulb”. The faces are pretty and detailed and
they are painted at an angle to the viewer which makes them even
more interesting. The girls are wearing a traditional Russian women’s
headwear “kokoshnik”, and have traditional Russian hair braid, which
has always been considered as an essential element of Russian femininity
and womanhood. In the center part of each doll there is a miniature
paining of winter countryside scenes, three horses pulling a sledge,
two women chatting, a girl carrying water and others. The set has
a very authentic feel to it and you can almost feel the cold clear
air of a crisp winter day with snow all around the peaceful Russian
