The size of the biggest Russian doll in this set is approx. 12.5 cm (approx. 4.88
inches). This set is available in several colours with a matt/satin
finish. The actual moulds are made from Linden tree, where the high
quality wood had to mature for two years before being made into
moulds by a Russian wood turner in a village near Polkhov Maidan,
Russia
This set of Russian Matryoshka dolls arrived to us directly from
the artist working in the very heart of the Matryoshka region of
Russia, Sergiev Posad. It has been lovingly created by a talent
of an individual artist who adores her craft. You can see and feel
that in every carefully painted detail of these gorgeous dolls.
The set is of a “paunchy” (puzataya) or they are also called “light
bulb” shape and has the most beautiful and tender combination of
colours. The main colour may vary with the frosted raised white
sections which have snow flakes effect. The head is beautifully
decorated with authentic patterns. The white raised dots continue
their pattern to the back of the dolls as well. There are pictures
of winter landscape in the middle of each doll which are all different.
The pictures are very vivid and calming. They give a feel of a crisp
winter day somewhere in Russia where the air is so fresh and all
worries are somewhere else, far, far away…
We are very proud to be the only shop in the UK where this beautiful
set can be purchased. This doll came to us directly from the artist.
All our Russian dolls are hollow inside (apart from the last, smallest
doll of each set), they all open in half and fit inside each other.
Please note that there may be some bright spots on the pictures of some Russian dolls on our website, resulting from photo camera flash and lights.
The actual Russian dolls that you will receive will not have any
of those spots.
