Russian Mushroom Nesting Dolls. The size of the biggest one is approximately
12 cm (4.8’). This is a fun and unusual set of 5 Russian nesting
dolls. They all, apart from the last one, open in halves and fit
into each other. This is a nice set to add to your collection or
to be an unusual gift you can nicely surprise somebody with.
This Russian dolls set is made from Linden or birch tree. The
trees are cut in the springtime when they are full of sap, then
stripped and kept in the open air for two years. Each doll’s shape
or ‘blank’ is created on a lathe with the smallest figurine, which
will not be taken apart, made first. Before the doll is painted
it is coated with a starchy glue to make the surface perfectly smooth,
which also prevents the paint from smudging. They are then hand
painted, by a team or individually, by highly skilled artisans,
lacquered and then set to dry in special drying rooms.
All our Russian dolls are hollow inside (apart from the last, smallest
doll of each set), they all open in half and fit inside each other.
Please note that there may be some bright spots on the pictures of some Russian dolls on our website, resulting from photo camera flash and
lights. The actual Russian dolls that you will receive will not
have any of those spots.
