5 Russian Dolls with Russian Folk Fairytale “Masha and the Bear”.
The height of the main doll is approximately 15 cm (6’), made from
Linden tree, paints and varnish finish.
This set of 5 Russian dolls depicts a folk Russian fairy tale “Masha
and the Bear”. In this fairy tale, a little girl called Masha went
to play in a forest with her friend and got lost. She was wandering
in the woods and at last found a hut belonging to a bear. She went
into the hut, liked it a lot and decided to stay there for a while.
When the bear came home he was very please to find little Masha
there and told her that he wanted her to stay with him, to look
after him to cook and clean for him. They started living together
but Masha would not stop thinking about finding a way back home.
One day she came up with a plan, made some pirozhki (patties/pasties)
and asked the bear to take them to her grandparents. The bear agreed,
Masha jumped in a big basket, put pirozhki on top and bear set off
with the basket on his back. During his journey the bear wanted
to stop several times and eat some of those pirozhki as he was getting
very hungry, but Masha was shouting out of the basket, Do not eat
pirozhki, take then to my grandparents, so the bear was very surprised
as to how Masha could watch him all that time. You can probably
guess what happened at the end. The bear brought the basket to Masha’s
grandparents’ house and was chased away by their dogs, while clever
little Masha was happily back home with her grandmother and grandfather.
You can see different scenes from this folk fairy tale on this
set of Russian dolls. It can be a great way of telling a story to
kids and demonstrate all the characters on the dolls. The set is
very colourful and bright, the dolls’ faces are beautiful, and the
back of the set also has a nice pattern in big daisies.
As all our Russian dolls are hand painted by artists there may be variations
and differences between those pictured on our website and the ones
you will receive. Every doll is unique as artists tend to add something
different to each and every doll set they paint. That’s why Russian
dolls are somehow a reflection of a mood of the artist painting
it in that particular moment. Russian dolls, as in life itself, may
have their own features, characters, colours and moods and can be
truly unique to you.
All our Russian dolls are hollow inside (apart from the last, smallest
doll of each set), they all open in half and fit inside each other.
Please note that there may be some bright spots on the pictures of some Russian dolls on our website, resulting from photo camera flash and
lights. The actual Russian dolls that you will receive will not
have any of those spots.
